The Powder is Here!

Been awhile…. hope you all have stayed safe out there during these crazy times! Best wishes to everyone who has been effected by the unthinkable! On a happy note, WINTER IS HERE!! It is starting to snow in the San Juans, I have gotten out six times so far, and each day has been a POW day!! What a great start! Skied a decent size South facing line yesterday in Silverton! Since the last time I wrote I went to Alaska to guide for Alaska Heliskiing in Haines! That was unreal!!! FINALLY! After five years of going to Alaska it was as good as it could get! Steep and so so soooo deep spines and mountain faces with endless features to play on! I was having the time of my life!! And before we knew it, so fast, we were shut down due to the covid… only three weeks into the best Alaska season so far!!! It is all good though! I am incredibly grateful to have been able to experience that!! It was what I have always dreamed of!! Big, steep, and deep Alaskan spines!!!! Now that the season has started I will be back on here again! Snowboarding is my passion and although I have dropped off of all of this and social media, I will be back at it sharing my love and observations with the ski community! I am still living in the Pow Bus, plan to travel (as allowed), and chase the deepest POW all season! Doing it as morally and safely as possible! Stoked for the season ahead!! Stay safe out there friends and enjoy those early season turns!! POWWWWWWW

Wolf Creek Local POW Day!

February 12, 2020

Woooo Creek local’s day!!!! Molly and I went to Wolf Creek Ski Area for a $51 lift ticket for local’s appreciation day!! THANK YOU! They got about nine inches to a foot a couple days before and we had no problem finding that!! We skied fresh POW all day! So easy to find the untouched there! Especially when you are the best skier on the mountain! 😉 Started the day with a hike-to on “Exhibition”. Then headed over to Alberta lift! Got waterfall gate 3, tree rope lines 7, 9, 10, 11, an Alberta Ridge hike-to, and a Knife Ridge hike-to!!! Molly sent her first cliff!!!! YEEEEEEW!! We accidentally skied into the tree rope 7 shot looking for 9 and it is a mandatory cliff zone! Whoops… I skied down on top of the cliffs and it was straight POWWWWWW below. Told Molly to ski down to me and come check it out. She had a techy bail out option, but did not take that, and sent the cliff!!!! It was a big cliff for anyone’s first cliff!! At least a ten footer! Bigger than my first cliff for sure! She did not stomp it, but totally committed, actually jumped off in control, landed back seat, and hip checked!! So cool to see!! She was so scared before and so incredibly stoked after!!!!! Really humble reminder to see what it is like to first start jumping off of things! So stoked for her! I told myself I was not going to jump at all today because the shoulder, but I could not resist that cliff and sent it after her!! No fall rule for me!! Also got redemption on a cliff off of Knife Ridge that I wrecked on last time I went for it! Sometimes the mountains win, sometime you win!!! Perfect day at Wolf Creek! So glad we went! Love skiing with Molly! Stoke levels are always so high!!! Time to get a crazy deep POW day with her! Going to take some days off to let the shoulder heal… Off to Alaska in a week n few days!! PRAY TO DAS SNOW GODS!!

Monarch Pass Snow Stake!

February 10, 2020

And the storm clears again for a bluebird POW day!! It stormed a bit overnight and super hard in the morning. We got about five inches in a few hours! Started the day hiking in the storm! Marshell, Chris, Devon, Steve, and I headed up Monarch Pass just shy of the summit at “Snow Stake Gulch”. Such easy access backcountry laps! Definitely recommend! We took our first lap on the lookers left face in the trees so we could see and get some cool POW shots! Then the sun came out!! We headed up for another one!! On that one we could stay more on the face, see where we were skiing, and see each other! Knit picked our way down on that one trying to get some cool photos! Success!! When we got down to the bottom it was way too beautiful out to not go up for another! So we threw our skins on and headed back up! This time we skied the lookers right face across from the one we were skiing! The sun was hitting this low angled untouched small bowl into the gully and we could not resist!!! No cameras! Just the friends and new friends shredding! What a weekend with the Bishop crew!! I had a really great time up there with those guys and am very thankful for everything they did!! Turns out tele skiers can be really cool…. HA! Just kidding, deep down, I love tele skiers! But unfortunately, nobody cares!!!!!!! Muahahahah!!! Off to Telluride for a Zac Deputy concert! Party party party!! Ski ski ski!!!!!!! PARTY MOBBIN!! SOUL SHREDDIN!!!!!!!!!
